Mr. President

Lady Danii (Daniela Haak, 22), T Seven (Judith Hildebrandt, 19) and LayZee Dee (Delroy Rennalds, 29) comprised the trio, Mr. President.

Mr. President’s first single was ”MM”, a tribute to Marilyn Monroe. Their claim to fame was the track “Up’n’Away” which hit gold in Germany and was played all over Europe. It was initially recorded by Caren Miller for a Lufthansa promotion. The rapper at the time was Sir Prophet (George Jones). Citing professional and artistic differences, Sir Prophet left the group and was replaced by LayZee Dee. The M and R in Mr. President stands for Music Rhythm, while President borne off the highest stature of leadership a person could achieve.

LayZee Dee visited Germany in the early nineties while on tour with a reggae group. He met Lady Danii and T Seven and became Mr. President’s new male vocalist. ”Up’n’Away” was rerecorded with LayZee Dee on lead vocals.

In 1995 Mr. President released their Platinum debut album, ”Up’ N Away”. It featured 4 hit singles.

In March of 1996 the Platinum, Gold and Silver euro-reggae hit track ”Coco Jamboo” was released as a promotional single to the album “We See the Same Sun”. Peaking at #2 in the German charts, ”Coco Jamboo” earned the BMI Award for being the most frequently played European track by US radio stations.

In May of 1997 Mr. President’s single ”Jo Jo Action” was released with a sunny and tropical video. Interestingly, the track was recorded before ”Coco Jamboo”. It peaked at #4 in the German charts. Their third album, ”Night Club”, was released at the end of August, 1997. In the album booklet, each member of the group offered some background to each song. For instance, you will learn that some of the sounds used in the album had been recorded in Times Square when they stayed in New York City back in 1996. In August 22, 1997 the video to the new single ”Take Me To The Limit” was recorded and released on September 5th, 1997, peaking at #11 in Germany. The group then kicked off their US Tour in November of 1997.

The album ”Space Gate” was subsequently released in 1999 with notable hits ”Give a Little Love” and ”Simbaleo”. The album peaked at #5 in the German charts and thereafter in 2003, MR. President released their final album as a group entitled ”Forever and One Day”. The lead single, ”Love, Sex and Sunshine” peaked at #23 in the German charts.

In 2008, the official separation of the group was announced. LayZee Dee continues to rock stages worldwide, while the other members have retired.
